In March 1948 a saucer said to be ninety nine feet across was reported down in Hart Canyon outside Aztec, with sixteen small bodies recovered from it. Frank Scully carried the account in Behind the Flying Saucers until reporter J P Cahn traced his sources to two confidence men selling oil detectors.
