Aircrews off the Kaikoura coast reported strings of bright lights that tracked their aircraft and appeared on Wellington radar, and a television crew aboard a follow-up flight filmed the objects. An air force inquiry blamed squid-boat lights and Venus, a verdict the witnesses rejected.
